The Indian menthol market has entered a firm upward trend, supported by tightening raw material availability and improving buying interest across domestic and export markets.
The rally has been driven by weather-related supply concerns, cautious inventory management by stockists, and sustained procurement from pharmaceutical, oral care, and personal care manufacturers.
Menthol Supply Tightens as Delayed Monsoon Affects Mint Crop
Unlike the relatively stable trading conditions witnessed during June, the first half of July marked a clear shift in market dynamics. Participants increasingly priced in the risk of tighter mint availability as delayed monsoon progress across key producing regions of Uttar Pradesh created uncertainty over crop development and the timing of fresh arrivals.
As illustrated in Figure, Natural Crystal Menthol (Ex-Moradabad) prices increased from INR 1.30 million/MT on 26 June 2026 to INR 1.55 million/MT on 17 July 2026, reflecting a sharp improvement in market sentiment over the past six weeks.

Weather and Menthol Supply Fundamentals
India remains the world’s largest producer of natural menthol, with Uttar Pradesh accounting for the majority of mint cultivation and menthol processing. Delayed and uneven monsoon rainfall has slowed sowing activities and raised concerns regarding crop establishment and future mint oil yields. As a result, farmers and stockists have limited spot sales, anticipating stronger realizations if weather-related supply risks persist.
Restricted arrivals at major physical trading centers have reduced the availability of crude mint oil, the principal feedstock for Natural Crystal Menthol production. Consequently, processors have maintained firm offer levels in both domestic and export markets, while replacement costs have continued to move higher.
Menthol Demand Fundamentals
Demand has remained healthy across the pharmaceutical, oral care, food, confectionery, and personal care sectors. Export inquiries from Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East have further strengthened market sentiment, allowing suppliers to maintain pricing discipline. Although higher natural menthol prices have encouraged some industrial buyers to evaluate synthetic alternatives for cost-sensitive applications, premium formulations continue to favor natural menthol because of its superior purity and product performance.
Procurement Strategy and Outlook
The recent price rally has encouraged downstream consumers to shift from opportunistic spot purchases toward forward procurement in an effort to secure third-quarter requirements. Meanwhile, suppliers continue to release inventories cautiously until greater clarity emerges regarding the upcoming mint crop.
Menthol Market Outlook
The near-term outlook for Menthol prices remains Bullish. Unless weather conditions improve significantly and fresh crop arrivals accelerate, constrained raw material availability and resilient downstream demand are expected to keep prices well supported through the remainder of the third quarter of 2026.
