Who are Price Reporting Agencies (PRAs) and how do PRAs differ from exchanges?

Price Reporting Agencies (PRAs) are independent organizations that collect, analyse, and publish price assessments for physical commodities and related products based on market intelligence and transaction data. Unlike exchanges which facilitate direct trading between counterparties and publish prices derived from executed trades on their platforms, PRAs assess prices in markets where bilateral transactions occur privately between parties.

PRAs like PriceWatch employ specialized market analysts who systematically gather information from market participants including producers, traders, distributors, and end-users to determine prevailing market values reflecting arm’s-length transactions under normal commercial conditions. While exchanges provide transparent, centralized trading with standardized contracts and real-time price discovery through order matching systems, PRAs serve markets where trading is decentralized, contracts are customized, and transaction details remain confidential between counterparties.

PRA assessments fill critical information gaps in opaque physical markets, providing independent price benchmarks used for contract indexation, financial settlements, corporate reporting, and strategic decision-making.

We provide pricing intelligence across multiple sectors including:

  • Chemicals and petrochemicals
  • Polymers and plastics
  • Energy products (crude oil, refined products, natural gas)
  • Metals and minerals
  • Elastomers
  • Textiles
  • Agricultural commodities and fertilizers
  • Specialty chemicals
  • Renewable fuels and biofuels

PriceWatch offers pricing and demand-supply analysis for a comprehensive range of over 350 products. This portfolio spans across chemicals, petrochemicals, fertilizers, metals, elastomers, polymers, specialty chemicals, oleochemicals, and other related categories. This extensive coverage allows PriceWatch to serve diverse market segments with detailed and reliable pricing intelligence.

PRA price assessments serve as essential market infrastructure enabling efficient commerce in physical commodity markets where transparent pricing would otherwise be unavailable due to the decentralized, bilateral nature of trading activity. These assessments provide critical functions across the value chain and throughout business operations.

Price discovery benefits accrue to all market participants as PRA assessments reveal current market values when individual companies have limited transaction visibility beyond their direct trading relationships, preventing information asymmetry that could disadvantage less-informed participants.

Contract indexation relies heavily on PRA prices, with billions of dollars in physical supply agreements globally referencing established price benchmarks for automatic price adjustment clauses, eliminating negotiation friction and enabling long-term commercial relationships.

Financial risk management depends on reliable price references for hedging strategies, with many derivative contracts and financial instruments settled against PRA assessments, creating linkage between physical and financial markets.

Corporate financial reporting and asset valuation often requires mark-to-market calculations based on credible independent price sources, where PRA assessments provide auditable references acceptable to accounting standards and regulatory authorities.

Strategic planning and investment decisions benefit from PRA price histories, forward curves, and market analysis that inform capital allocation, procurement strategies, and competitive positioning in dynamic commodity markets.

PriceWatch’s price assessments are not legally binding obligations on market participants unless parties have voluntarily incorporated them into contractual agreements or commercial arrangements. Our assessments represent independent, good-faith determinations of prevailing market values based on rigorous methodology and comprehensive market intelligence, but they do not constitute offers to buy or sell commodities, nor do they create automatic obligations for any party.

PriceWatch is not a party to these commercial arrangements and assumes no liability for business decisions or financial outcomes resulting from third-party use of our published data. Our Terms of Service clearly delineate that assessments are provided for informational purposes and users bear responsibility for determining appropriate application in their specific circumstances, including legal and financial due diligence before incorporating assessments into binding commitments.

PriceWatch subscriptions deliver maximum value to organizations and professionals requiring systematic access to commodity market intelligence, pricing transparency, and analytical insights for commercial operations, risk management, or strategic decision-making. PriceWatch maintains eligibility restrictions for platform access to ensure appropriate use of our proprietary data and protect the integrity of our market intelligence services.

Competitors engaged in providing substantially similar price reporting, market assessment, or commodity intelligence services are generally prohibited from subscribing to prevent unauthorized competitive intelligence gathering and potential misuse of our proprietary methodologies, though exceptions may be granted for academic research or complementary service offerings at PriceWatch’s discretion.

Individuals acting in personal capacity without legitimate commercial, professional, or institutional affiliation requiring market intelligence are not eligible subscribers, as our services are designed exclusively for business-to-business applications.

Entities with demonstrated history of unauthorized data redistribution, intellectual property violations, or breach of terms of service with PriceWatch or similar providers may be declined subscription privileges.

Shell companies, intermediaries, or agents attempting to circumvent these restrictions by subscribing on behalf of ineligible parties are prohibited and subject to immediate termination upon discovery.

Organizations refusing to complete required due diligence documentation including beneficial ownership disclosure, intended use attestations, or compliance certifications cannot be approved as subscribers under our know-your-customer protocols.

PriceWatch is deeply committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of subscriber information, implementing comprehensive policies and technical safeguards aligned with international privacy standards including GDPR, CCPA, and industry best practices for data protection. Our privacy policy governs collection, use, storage, and sharing of personal and organizational information obtained through subscription processes, platform usage, and client interactions.

We collect necessary information including contact details, organizational affiliation, payment information, and usage analytics solely for purposes of account administration, service delivery, platform improvement, and communication about our services. Personal data is stored securely using encryption, access controls, and regular security audits, with retention periods limited to operational necessity and regulatory requirements.

PriceWatch does not sell, rent, or share subscriber information with third parties for marketing purposes without explicit consent. Limited information sharing occurs only with service providers (payment processors, cloud infrastructure, customer support tools) under strict confidentiality agreements and data processing terms ensuring equivalent protection standards.

Our platform employs cookies and tracking technologies disclosed in our Cookie Policy, with options for users to manage preferences. We maintain transparency about data practices through our published Privacy Policy available at www.pricewatch.ai, updated periodically with notification to subscribers of material changes requiring renewed consent where applicable.

To use or quote data from PriceWatch, you must obtain prior written consent from PriceWatch. This ensures that the proprietary nature of our market intelligence is respected and that data usage complies with our terms and conditions. Requests for permission can be directed to our sales or customer support teams, who will provide the necessary guidance and formal approval. Unauthorized use or quoting of PriceWatch data is not permitted.

PriceWatch offers annual subscription periods tailored to meet diverse client needs. Our standard subscription term is 12 months (annual), which provides the best value and ensures uninterrupted access to our comprehensive market intelligence. Enterprise clients with specific requirements can discuss customized subscription durations with our sales team. All subscriptions begin on the date of contract execution and provide immediate access to historical data archives, real-time pricing updates, and analytical tools.

Subscription withdrawal is permitted within 48 hours of initial contract signing, provided no data access has occurred, in accordance with company policy rules. To initiate a withdrawal, contact our sales support team at sales@price-watch.ai with your subscription reference number and withdrawal request.

Our team will process your request within one business day and provide written confirmation of the cancellation. Please note that once payment is processed, no refunds are possible, as per company policy.  Refunds are not permitted once you have logged into the platform or accessed any proprietary data, which constitutes service utilization under our policy terms.

Subscription de-activation occurs upon contract expiration or non-renewal and results in immediate suspension of platform access. When your subscription is de-activated, you will no longer be able to log in to the PriceWatch platform, access real-time pricing data, download reports, or utilize analytical tools.

However, any reports or data exports downloaded during your active subscription period remain your property and can be retained for internal use per our licensing agreement. If you choose to reactivate within this window, all settings will be restored seamlessly.

User de-activation refers to the removal of individual user credentials within an active organizational subscription, while subscription de-activation terminates the entire account. Account administrators can de-activate specific users through the Admin Portal when employees leave the organization, change roles, or no longer require access to PriceWatch services.

De-activated users lose immediate access to the platform, but their activity history and custom settings are retained for audit purposes and can be transferred to replacement users if needed. This feature is particularly valuable for maintaining security compliance and managing user licenses effectively.

Organizations can de-activate and reactivate users without affecting other team members’ access or incurring additional costs, provided the action stays within the allocated user license count. User de-activation does not impact subscription duration or billing cycles.

We offer two subscription plans tailored to meet the distinct needs of our clients:

For Manufacturers: This plan is designed specifically for manufacturing companies seeking comprehensive pricing intelligence and market insights related to raw materials, chemicals, and commodities essential to their production processes. It includes access to detailed pricing data, historical trends, market forecasts, and regulatory compliance updates crucial for strategic procurement and production planning.

For Consultants: This plan caters to industry consultants, analysts, and advisory firms requiring flexible and in-depth data access to support client projects and market research. Subscribers benefit from customizable data reports, sector-specific insights, and analytical tools that facilitate expert analysis and strategic recommendations.

Both plans adhere to our company policy regarding subscription terms, access rights, and data usage. For detailed pricing, contract terms, and any additional service options, please contact our sales support team at sales@price-watch.ai or you can subscribe it through Subscription page on our official website. Our customer success managers are also available to assist in selecting the plan best aligned with your requirements.

Active subscriptions can be modified to add or remove specific product categories, geographic regions, or data streams based on evolving business needs. To request modifications, submit a ticket through our Subscription Page or you contact sales team directly (sales@price-watch.ai) with details of the desired changes.

Adding products to your subscription involves a prorated charge for the remaining subscription period, calculated based on the standard pricing for the additional coverage. Removing products results in adjusted billing for subsequent renewal periods, though credits are not issued for the current term unless specified in your contract.

Product modifications typically take 2-3 business days to implement, after which your access permissions will be updated automatically. We recommend scheduling a consultation with our analysts when making significant changes to ensure the modified subscription aligns with your strategic intelligence requirements and delivers optimal value.

Subscription renewal for PriceWatch services is designed to be seamless and hassle-free for our clients. We initiate the renewal process 30 days before your subscription expiration date by sending a formal renewal notice outlining your current package, upcoming pricing (if applicable), and any new features or enhancements available.

Your account manager will schedule a renewal discussion to review your usage patterns, address any concerns, and explore opportunities to optimize your subscription based on your evolving needs. Clients can choose automatic renewal, which ensures uninterrupted service with zero downtime, or opt for manual renewal with updated contract terms.

Renewal processing requires approximately 5-7 business days for contract execution and payment processing. All renewal confirmations include updated login credentials if security protocols require rotation, ensuring a smooth transition into your new subscription term.

PriceWatch maintains a clear and firm refund policy for subscription services: refunds are not provided under any circumstances. Once a subscription has been activated, all sales are considered final, and no refunds or credits will be issued.

This policy is in place due to the proprietary nature of our market intelligence services and the immediate access granted to valuable data upon subscription activation. We kindly encourage prospective clients to carefully review the subscription terms prior to commitment. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, our customer success team is available to assist you.

All inquiries regarding refunds or cancellations may be directed to sales@price-watch.ai; however, please note that refunds will not be granted as per our policy.

PriceWatch employs a rigorous and timely pricing data update schedule to ensure our clients have access to the most current market intelligence for informed decision-making. Our pricing data update frequency varies by product category and market dynamics, with high-velocity markets receiving more frequent updates. Weekly assessments for frequently traded products are released every Friday by 6 pm IST (8:30 am EST).

The PriceWatch Downtime Tracker is a critical tool for monitoring planned and unplanned outages across refineries, production facilities, pipelines, and other infrastructure assets affecting commodity supply chains. Our downtime tracker is updated in real-time/Daily as new information becomes available from facility operators, industry sources, and regulatory filings.

Status updates for ongoing outages are refreshed every day/every 4 hours during critical situations or daily for routine maintenance activities. Each downtime entry includes facility details, capacity impacted, reason for outage, start date, expected restart date, and historical context. Monthly summary reports analysing downtime trends, regional patterns, and market impacts are published within 5 business days after month-end, providing valuable intelligence for supply chain planning and risk management.

PriceWatch’s comprehensive user onboarding process ensures new subscribers can quickly leverage the full capabilities of our platform and data services. Upon subscription activation, clients receive a welcome email containing login credentials, quick-start guides, and scheduling links for personalized onboarding sessions. New subscribers are assigned a dedicated customer success manager who conducts check-in calls at 2 weeks and 6 weeks post-launch to address questions, optimize usage, and ensure satisfaction.

Enterprise clients with multiple users receive customized group training sessions, role-based access configuration, and advanced workshops on analytical tools and API integration. All onboarding materials are available for future reference, and refresher training can be requested at any time throughout the subscription period.

PriceWatch employs a rigorous, multi-source data collection methodology designed to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and comprehensive market coverage across all products and regions we monitor. Our proprietary data collection framework combines primary market research, secondary source verification, and advanced analytical validation to produce reliable price assessments and market intelligence.

Our team of specialized market analysts maintains direct relationships with market participants including producers, traders, distributors, end-users, and logistics providers, conducting daily conversations to gather transaction information, market sentiment, and supply-demand dynamics. We complement primary research with systematic monitoring of exchange trading data, regulatory filings, company announcements, shipping movements, and storage reports from verified secondary sources.

Each data point undergoes a three-tier validation process comparing information across multiple independent sources, applying statistical outlier detection, and conducting peer review by senior analysts before publication.

The policy requires identification, disclosure, and appropriate management of any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts to avoid adverse effects on client interests. Employees receive training on the policy and must declare outside interests regularly. Where conflicts arise, PriceWatch may implement measures such as restricting transactions or, if necessary, declining to act to protect client interests. Ongoing monitoring and periodic reviews ensure adherence to high ethical standards and compliance with relevant regulations.

PriceWatch maintains strict conflict of interest policies:

  • Independence: PriceWatch does not trade in the commodities the company assesses.

You should contact PriceWatch immediately, detailing your concerns with as much supporting evidence as possible, while maintaining confidentiality where needed.

PriceWatch commits to reviewing the assessment process specifically for the date and product in question. Following this review, PriceWatch will either explain their rationale for the published price or, if an error is identified, issue a correction.

PriceWatch primarily publishes price assessments in the main trading currency of the respective market, such as USD o EUR, to reflect standard market conventions. However, currency conversion services are available to provide prices in other currencies as needed. Upon client request, PriceWatch can publish assessments in multiple currencies to suit regional or contractual requirements.

Additionally, historical price data can be adjusted for currency fluctuations, allowing accurate currency-adjusted historical price views. This multi-currency capability supports global market participants by offering pricing data that aligns with their local currency preferences and financial reporting needs.

PriceWatch handles weekends, holidays, and market closures by typically publishing price assessments only on business days when markets are active. Scheduled holiday closures are published in advance and communicated to users. For contract purposes, conventions such as using the “nearest business day” or the “last published price” are generally applied to maintain consistency.

In markets where limited weekend trading occurs, any activity over the weekend is usually reflected in Monday’s assessments. This approach ensures assessments remain timely yet aligned with actual market trading days and conventions. Holiday schedules and publishing calendars are transparently shared to help clients plan accordingly.

PriceWatch supports multiple formats:

  • Excel (.xlsx): Most common for manual analysis
  • CSV: Easy import into databases and systems
