Can Freight Costs Push DMAC Higher Even as China’s Prices Stall?

The global Dimethyl Acetamide (DMAC) market displayed contrasting pricing trends during June and July 2026, highlighting the growing influence of logistics costs over origin pricing.

China origin barely moved this month, yet three import markets kept climbing. That gap is the story.

Over the last six weeks, FOB China DMAC values slipped from a small early rise into a mild decline, closing the period lower than where it started.

CIF Argentina and CIF Vietnam did the opposite, adding close to five percent over the same stretch, with the sharpest single week jump landing in week twenty six.

CIF India stayed range bound, and Ex Bhiwandi in the domestic Indian market did not move a single week.

Acetic Acid Feedstock Cost Trend Explains the Divergence

The pull is coming from acetic anhydride, the core feedstock tied back to acetic acid. Chinese producers held export offers steady, but freight and insurance loading on longer haul CIF routes pushed landed costs higher for buyers further from the coast.

Argentina and Vietnam absorb more of that freight burden per tonne than nearer markets, so small logistics shifts show up faster in their numbers. Add in tanker routing caution near the Strait of Hormuz, and even a flat FOB print can still translate into a costlier CIF invoice.

Two things worth watching right now.

  • CIF Vietnam and CIF Argentina have posted five straight weeks without a single decline.
  • Ex Bhiwandi has not adjusted once in six weeks, suggesting Indian traders are absorbing cost rather than passing it on yet.

Global Dimethyl Acetamide (DMAC) Market Outlook

Over the next three months, expect FOB China to stay close to current levels unless anhydride output tightens further. CIF markets tied to longer shipping lanes look more likely to keep drifting up than to correct, especially if Hormuz linked freight caution continues.

Domestic India is the one to track, since a flat Ex Bhiwandi line rarely holds once import costs keep climbing around it.

If landed costs keep rising while origin price stands still, how long before Ex Bhiwandi finally has to move.
