Has China’s Maintenance Cycle Tightened Asia’s n-Heptane Supply?

The global n Heptane market moved higher over the past six weeks, with China recording two rounds of price increases separated by extended periods of stability.

FOB Shanghai prices remained unchanged in Week 23 before rising by 5.34% in Week 24. The market stayed stable from Week 25 through Week 27, followed by another 4.61% increase in Week 28.

The movement reflected tightening supply rather than steady demand growth, drawing attention across the regional market.

China n-Heptane Market Supported by Maintenance Shutdowns

The main driver was the planned maintenance shutdown at Liaoning Yufeng Chemical, one of China’s major n Heptane manufacturers, during July.

Lower operating availability reduced spot supplies and encouraged suppliers to raise offers.

At the same time, crude oil prices remained volatile. Brent crude softened during late June after progress in US Iran peace discussions and expectations of smoother traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

That trend reversed in early July as fresh geopolitical tensions lifted crude again, keeping production costs uncertain and supporting supplier confidence.

Regional Markets Reflect China’s n-Heptane Supply Tightness

China’s monthly trend also reflected the tighter supply situation. Prices increased by 14.23% in June from May, followed by another 4.99% rise in July 2026.

South Korea climbed 15.94% in June before easing by 1.20% in July as supply conditions normalized.

India continued to move higher, rising 14.03% in June and another 5.38% in July 2026, with import prices supported by shipments from China and South Korea.

  • Planned maintenance at Liaoning Yufeng Chemical reduced available supply and supported higher export offers from China.
  • Indian buyers faced firmer import costs as dependence on Chinese and South Korean cargoes limited lower priced purchasing options.
